I had a business trip planned in India for 2 days and had a spare day to myself before I could catch the next flight back. So before going over, I did some research and decided that it was an amazing city to visit, not just the capital state but also many other places nearby, mostly the ones included in the Golden Triangle tour, which I plan on visiting the next time I have a meeting in the country. This time around though I kept my visit small and crisp and only explored the most famous and the best parts of New Delhi. So here is a list of places that I went to and the things that I did in my one day in Delhi.
Lotus Temple
I was psyched to visit the Lotus Temple. A temple of Bahai faith that stands in a country of hindu majority, and was designed by an Iranian architect, what’s not interesting about the structure. But you only feel its real beauty and charm when you actually see it up close. Another interesting fact about the temple is that there is no idol to be worshipped and people of any faith, case, creed are welcome inside. No ritualistic ceremonies can be performed inside the Lotus Temple nor can anyone deliver sermons, and silence maintained inside the temple is so quaint that one could meditate.
Rashtrapati bhawan
As most Same Day Tours go, they will only take you to the outsides of most places. But my trip planned with Essence Rajasthan Tourism gave me the liberty to explore just as much as I wanted. Rashtrapati Bhawan, as I got to know, is a famous monument of the British Empire which was said to be the palace of the Viceroy of India, but it is now the home of the President of India. If you go straight from the Durbar Hall, you will reach India Gate, which is a memorial for Indian soldiers and one the best places to visit in Delhi.
Rajghat
This is the memorial for Mahatma Gandhi. The cenotaph commemorating his memory is a simple black marble structure that sits in the midst of a beautiful lush green garden. It has also preserved Gandhi's illustrious life. His philosophy is shown through pictures, sculpture and photos at the Gandhi memorial museum situated right beside his cenotaph at rajghat. His life and philosophy behind the many movements like the Sarvodaya movement, the dandi March and his beliefs in truth and non-violence is shown through a film in English. This one is a place that cannot be missed in the North India Tours, no matter what nationality you belong to.
Garden of five senses
When I was researching New Delhi I never thought that I would put this place in my curriculum, but after having spent 2 days of meeting with corporate people from all around the world I will sure that this is what I would want to do at the end of this trip. Situated far away from the hustle bustle of the city, the enticingly alluring park brings together an evocative bouquet of colour and fragrance, texture and form of flowers, trees and plants. The park covers 20 acres of land and is designed to stimulate your senses of touch, sight, smell, sound and taste and is a paradise for nature’s lovers. It is one place that I’m sure most India Tour Packages miss but they shouldn’t.
Overall I loved my experience in New Delhi and have decided to go back, for a Golden Triangle tour With Rajasthan, this time.
